About this article

Have you ever found yourself doing 'everything by the book' on your spiritual path, yet still feeling stretched rather than expanded - as if your physical and spiritual selves are in a constant tug-of-war? Or wondered why, despite ascending to great spiritual heights, some individuals suddenly 'snap' or derail, seemingly contradicting their enlightened state? I’m Dr. Charu Thapliyal, and in my 'Shadow to Shakti' session, we explored these paradoxes, revealing how our unintegrated shadow self is often the missing piece, preventing full ascension and wholeness. It's time to understand that your shadow is not something evil or external, but very much a part of your own self, waiting to be integrated.

This session was born from the profound insights and subsequent responsibility received during a deeply potent experience I had during my recent visit to Mahavatar Babaji's cave in Kukuchina, Dwarahat, and later Neem Karoli Baba's ashram in Uttarakhand. These are places I visit often, typically every year since 2017, and I always leave feeling an inexplicable understanding, surrender, and devotion, receiving many new light codes and transmissions. However, this time was different; the information I received was so powerful that I simply could not reject it. My conscious mind had to acknowledge the knowledge given to me because it was incredibly pertinent and relevant to our lives today, not just for me, but for people around the world.

My core question to Babaji before going to the cave was this: Despite Earth being in such a high-frequency band, with talk of quantum leaps in spirituality, and people being more open and confident in their practices, why are so many spiritual seekers still unable to ascend? Many people come to me in my one-on-one sessions, telling me they are stuck in 3D patterns, even though they practice meditation, yoga, bhakti, and visit high-energy spots. They feel like they are doing "everything by the book" but still face the same old patterns and situations. Sometimes, years of spiritual work feel like they come crashing down due to a single trigger, leaving them back at ground zero. It's like a tsunami that washes over everything built on years of foundation.

The answer I received from Babaji was in the form of a vivid vision. It revealed that the unaddressed "shadow" is the crucial missing piece in their ascension journey.

The Paradox of Spiritual Progress: Feeling Stretched, Not Expanded

The vision I received from Mahavatar Babaji was powerful: Imagine someone standing on the ground with their feet sunken in the soil, completely held by the earth. Then, imagine someone holding their head from above and pulling it upwards. If you imagine yourself as a being of plastic or chewing gum, you are simply being stretched in both directions. This vision symbolizes what is happening to many spiritual seekers. Until we leave our past self, past identity, and past 3D rootedness or stuckness behind, we cannot truly ascend to 5D or higher dimensions. This creates fragmentation, pulling us in different directions.

We might be doing the spiritual work, but instead of feeling expanded, we feel stretched. It’s as if our physical self and our spiritual self are in a constant tug of war inside, leading only to stretching, not genuine expansion. The answer I received for this paradoxical state was shadow healing.

This phenomenon, where perceived problems intensify as one becomes more spiritual, is actually the law of paradox working for spiritual seekers. The more spiritual capacity you build to overcome your old identity, the more so-called "problems," obstacles, patterns, and behaviors come to the surface. This often confuses seekers, making them think that ignorance was bliss, as they now face more "garbage" to clean than ever before.

But the reason this happens is simple: you have finally come home to yourself after a long time. Imagine returning home after a long trip to find it covered in dust and cobwebs. While living there daily, you might not have noticed the dirt, or it wasn't as bad. As we stepped away from our soul's essence, a gap formed between our mind and soul, accumulating "dust" - which is ignorance. Now, through spiritual practices, you are returning home, and seeing your "home" (your true self) in such a state can bring guilt, shame, embarrassment, anger, frustration, and disgust.

Understanding the Shadow: A Deeper, Integrated Perspective

The concept of shadow healing is more popular in the West than in the East. However, after researching ancient Indian literature, I discovered countless instances and dimensions of it. Something so sacred and profound could not be so recent.

The understanding of shadow in the West differs slightly from the East. In the West, shadow is often seen as darkness, something repressed, hidden, or buried deep within our unconscious, something to be fixed. But in the Indian context, the shadow is viewed as a karmic memory. It is not a darkness to be removed or escaped, but merely something to be shed light upon. It's a "forgotten light waiting to be remembered".

When we talk about the Indian perspective, the shadow is not something evil or external to you. Just like in some movies where an angel and a demon with the person's face sit on their shoulders, your shadow is very much a part of your own self. You have a love-and-light side, an angelic side, and also a shadow that you may not have accepted, but which unconsciously drives the majority of your behaviors. This is precisely why highly spiritual people sometimes do things that seem "so human, so stupid, so lacking in common sense," causing their downfall. This is due to an improperly integrated shadow self.

Therefore, from the Indian perspective, this shadow is not to be removed, cut off, suppressed, or taken out. The Indian mode of inquiry has always been non-violent (Ahimsa), in thought, deed, and action. Shadow work, then, is about reintegrating and accepting these wounded aspects of the self, rather than overpowering them. You re-invite that wounded self, re-integrate it, and re-accept it as part of your whole, multidimensional being. This means you can simultaneously operate from different dimensions and states of your being.

Where the Shadow Hides: The Four Corners of Consciousness

Just as there are four corners in a room, the shadow takes shelter in four specific areas within our consciousness. Understanding these areas makes it easier to comprehend why certain patterns repeat in our lives, often intensifying as we become more spiritual.

These four areas - your ignorance, past attachment or detachment to desires, identity markers, and karmic impressions - are where the shadow hides.

Modern Shadow Manifestations and Their Impact

In our modern lives, especially for those on a spiritual journey, certain shadow triggers are very common:

One significant manifestation is spiritual bypassing. This is the practice of "only allowing space for love and light" in your life, suppressing any emotion, person, or trigger perceived as negative or unspiritual. For example, if you have a fight with a friend, and you tell yourself that anger or conflict is not spiritual, you suppress those feelings. You selectively choose "lighter emotions" from a "spiritual buffet," but keep all the "heavier" parts hidden and repressed.

This suppression inevitably builds up pressure, which can then be released in violent, unforeseen, or harmful ways, both to yourself and others. This is why some spiritual individuals who appear "perfect" on the surface, never seeming angry or sad, suddenly snap, derail from their spiritual path, or even experience psychotic or mental breakdowns. It's like living in a dirty, dusty house, consciously choosing to ignore the grime until it inevitably catches up with you.

Each shadow hides a part of your soul essence trying to return home. This brings us to soul fragmentation, a concept popular in shamanic healing circles. It occurs when your spiritual practice tries to expand your head upwards, but your feet are still stuck in the ground, causing you to be stretched. Eventually, the tension becomes too much, and the person can break into two or more parts. This is what happens when you receive high spiritual downloads or knowledge but haven't fully integrated your karmic or 3D lessons. In trying to balance these very different frequencies, the soul breaks down into fragmented parts. If you constantly feel, "I do not feel fully like myself," even on a spiritual path, it could be a sign of fragmentation.

Soul fragmentation and shadow are caused by various factors, including:

When these patterns become deeply embedded in our programming, they manifest in our lives through our Vasanas, Ahamkar, and Samskaras. The root cause of these shadows is mostly repressed emotions, which create energetic blocks. Just like our circulatory system, we have an energetic system called the Nadi system. Repressed emotions block the circulation of energy, leading to physical manifestations like stones, tumors, blood clots, chronic illnesses, and autoimmune diseases, which then require medical intervention because the energy has solidified into physical form.

Pathways to Shadow Healing: Ancient Indian Wisdom for Modern Seekers

Indian texts consistently state that the mind can either bind you or free you. We often view the mind as something to be cast away in spirituality, but it's a wonderful tool for spiritual growth if used properly. Through self-inquiry, we become aware of our shadows, and this awareness brings them to light.

According to Indian wisdom, we can heal our shadows through various powerful methods:

It's Time to Integrate Your Shadow

The message I received from Mahavatar Babaji and Neem Karoli Baba, and which I am now sharing, emphasizes the profound importance of addressing and integrating your shadow self for true spiritual ascension and wholeness. The shadow is not something to be feared but a part of the self waiting to be acknowledged and transformed into your inner power - your Shakti.

To assist in this profound transformation, I've been given the responsibility to organize a workshop called "Shadow to Shakti." In this workshop, you will learn to decode your shadow self, heal emotional patterns and karmic loops, activate your inner Shakti power, learn tools for real spiritual alchemy, and apply Indian philosophy practically.

A very strong message I received was about the 8/8 Lionsgate portal on August 8th. This is a crucial day for those wishing to step into their ascended self, moving from shadow self, from 3D to 5D. Using this powerful gateway for transformation, courage, and spiritual rebirth can cause significant activations, with results manifesting up to 2026 or 2027. The "Shadow to Shakti" workshop, running from August 1st to 8th, will include daily guided meditations, shadow work prompts, portal activations, recordings, and a private WhatsApp group for support.

Details:

Even if you don't feel called to join this specific workshop, I urge you to look into this topic of shadow healing. Explore those hidden, repressed parts of yourself. If you feel empowered to work on this independently, more power to you. The point is to make you aware of this theme that might be holding you back in your ascension journey. The 8/8 portal is powerful enough to help you reprogram your reality and heal patterns you haven't been able to overcome for lifetimes, simply by having conscious awareness on that day.

So, I encourage all of you to work on this. Send an intention in your meditation to find the right mentor or guru who can help you work with your shadows gently and overcome them forever and for good. My ultimate thanks and gratitude go to Mahavatar Babaji, Patriji, Neem Karoli Babaji, all the masters seen and unseen, and to your divine self and my divine self.
