Origins of Tantra
Wisdom Expedition to South Indian Tantric Sites
Duration: 8 Days / 7 Nights
Origins of Tantra is an 8 day immersive journey into the sacred geography of South India, where Classical Tantra was not theorized, but lived.
This is not a retreat with workshops. Nor a devotional tour.
It is a deliberate movement through temples, mountains, forests, and village shrines where the tantric current is still alive and carried through ritual, silence, land, and living lineages.
Over eight days, we travel from Bangalore into some of Tamil Nadu’s most potent sites. We ground in the golden field of Sripuram Golden Temple, enter the ritual current of Kamakshi Amman Temple, and sit in the fire presence of Arunachala Hill.
We encounter the fierce village Śakti of Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, the sacred geometry of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, and the sovereign grace of Meenakshi Amman Temple. Before dawn on Soma Pradosham, we ascend Sadhuragiri Hills, legendary abode of the 18 Siddhas, walking forest paths and sitting in silence where lineage is still felt.
This expedition is a return to Tantra as lived wisdom. Embodied, devotional, disciplined, and rooted in land.
There are no promises of awakening. No performances. No curated spirituality.
Only rhythm. Depth. And the quiet transformation that happens when you step into terrain that has been holding spiritual fire for centuries.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this a retreat or a teaching program?
- No. This is not a retreat in the conventional sense, and there is no fixed curriculum. You will receive context, orientation, and subtle guidance, but the primary teacher is the land itself — the mountains, temples, forests, and the living traditions we encounter.
- Who is this journey for?
- This expedition is for those who:
- Feel a sincere pull toward the tantric roots of embodied wisdom
- Are comfortable with silence, self-responsibility, and open awareness
- Value encounter over explanation, and presence over performance
Can walk gently between devotion and inquiry. It is not suitable for those expecting structured workshops, comfort tourism, or fixed outcomes.
- Do I need prior knowledge or experience of Tantra to join?
- No prior study is required. A quiet openness is. The journey does not teach Tantra in a conceptual way. It invites direct experience of what ancient practitioners called living reality.
- What is Soma Pradosham, and why is it significant?
- Soma Pradosham is a sacred twilight observance dedicated to Śiva, occurring when Pradosham falls on a Monday (Soma).
Experiencing it at Sadhuragiri, home to the 18 Siddhas, aligns the expedition with a potent Shaiva-tantric current. This timing is intentional and central to the journey’s arc.
- What kind of practices will we do?
- There are no prescribed techniques or group rituals. Instead, you’ll be invited into states of receptivity through:
- Silent walks and darśans
- Meditative observation and natural pauses
- Organic satsangs and dialogues as they arise
- Simple body-awareness and grounding methods when needed
What unfolds depends on the place and the group field. Nothing is staged.
- How physically demanding is the expedition?
- The journey involves moderate travel and walking, including mountain terrain at Sadhuragiri. Participants should have basic physical fitness and be comfortable with heat, varied conditions, and a few early mornings.
- What kind of accommodation and meals can I expect?
- Accommodations are simple and clean, selected for comfort and proximity to sites.
Meals are South Indian vegetarian, balanced for simplicity and satiety. Flexibility and discernment are essential. Occasionally, meals may align with temple timings or be dependent on local availability.
- How many people will be in the group?
- To preserve intimacy and depth, the expedition is limited to a small group. This allows for genuine connection and space for silence without the dynamics of a crowd.
- What language will be used during the journey?
- The guiding language will be English, with occasional insights from Tamil where it enriches the experience. Translation or cultural context will be provided when relevant.
- How do I prepare before joining?
- - Begin slowing down in the weeks before travel
- Reduce external stimulation (social media, planning, etc.)
- Cultivate silence and simplicity in daily life
- Read lightly about Tamil siddha traditions if you wish — but come without intellectual agendas
The real preparation is inner spaciousness.
- What is included after confirmation?
- Upon acceptance and confirmation, participants receive:
- Full detailed itinerary
- Packing and preparation guidance
- Health and fitness considerations
- Cultural and temple etiquette guidelines
- Travel coordination details
- What is included in the expedition cost?
- Typically included:
- All accommodation and ground transport within the tour dates
- Entry fees, temple offerings, and local guidance
- Selected meals
- Facilitation and accompaniment by the leading guide(s)
Not included:
- Flights to/from Bangalore
- Personal offerings, snacks, or private rituals
- Travel insurance and medical costs
(Detailed inclusions and logistics are shared upon confirmation.)
- What about photography or documentation?
- Participants are asked to honor the sanctity of place and moment.
Photography may be restricted at certain sites. Presence is prioritized over documentation. And, we recognize the era we are living in and will be using our discernment to capture the journey.
- Why “Shānti first”?
- Because silence and a calm nervous system are the ground of transmission.
Before exploration, there must be stillness.
Shānti, the peace that steadies perception, is the first and last practice of this journey.
