Kanchipuram

The City of Thousand Temples

Kanchipuram is one of the seven Mokshapuri (cities of liberation) in Hindu scripture. Once a capital of the Pallava kings, it is divided into Shiva Kanchi and Vishnu Kanchi. While famous globally for its silk, for the seeker, it is a library of stone, housing ancient temples like Kailasanathar and Ekambareswarar (representing the element of Earth).

Home to the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, a monastic institution established by Adi Shankara. A major center for learning Sanskrit and Vedas.
