The Varanasi of the South
Located on Pamban Island, Rameshwaram is a place of purification. According to the Ramayana, this is where Lord Rama built the bridge to Lanka to rescue Sita. The Ramanathaswamy Temple is famous for its endless corridors and the 22 sacred wells (theerthams). Pilgrims believe a bath in these waters washes away sins. The vibe is oceanic, windy, and deeply mythological.
One of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites (and the only one in the South). It holds one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Essential for ancestral rituals.
