The local time that matters

through the day

In London, sunrise is 6:39 AM and sunset is 5:46 PM.

The date follows Indian reckoning. The time above is calculated for the city shown, so it can differ from a calendar published in India.

The simplest way to observe Holi

Choose one colour, wear it or place it beside a window, and send a sincere message of renewal to someone you have avoided or missed.

What the day is

Holi is often called the festival of colours, but its two days hold several traditions. Holika Dahan remembers the protection of Prahlada and the burning of arrogance; the following day is a playful exchange of colour associated with Krishna and the spring season. Regional celebrations can be devotional, communal, exuberantly public, or quietly domestic. The familiar colour powder is not the whole meaning. Holi gives people permission to loosen old roles, apologise, laugh, and begin again. For someone far from a community, a small act of colour and a repaired relationship can carry the spirit of the festival without copying a street celebration.

How to observe it

Learn the local community’s safety guidance before using colour. At home, make a coloured drink or rangoli, read the story of Prahlada, and name one relationship you want to meet with more warmth.

Community note

This falls on a Wednesday. A local community may use a different regional convention or move a public programme to the nearest weekend.

For a class

Holi asks what becomes possible when we stop protecting an old identity. Practise meeting change with curiosity, then leave room for play.
